Our Harvest celebration was wonderful! Thank you for all your donations. The items were collected and given to families in need at our local food bank. We gathered together outside in the school playground and welcomed families and parishioners to join us in our Collective Worship. The prayer and liturgy was celebrated by all. Each year group also carried out a song, poem, prayer or roleplay and wore a different coloured shirt. This illustrated a rainbow of hope, not only at St Margaret Clitherow, but also within the wider community.
Our pupils later participated in a frugal lunch with their family members. This helped our school family to think about those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
The Bible teaches us that we should first be 'rich towards God' (Lk12 - 21) and to pray 'Give us this day our daily bread' (Mt 6-11). We should not strive for luxury possessions but for the goods required for a happy life in moderate prosperity, the support of a family, works of charity, and participation in culture and education, as well as further development. (DOCAT, 2016)
Money is a means of exchange, a measure of value, a reserve for the future but must not become an idol (Mt 6:24). Anyone who wants to follow Jesus must be 'poor in sight' and detached from possessions (Mt 5:3). Nothing should have priority over our love for God.
Many people are living in poverty and lack financial resources and essentials for a minimum standard of living. At St Margaret Clitherow, we are deeply motivated to do everything possible to alleviate the suffering of others and actively embody these teachings through prayer, voluntary efforts, acts of kindness, and almsgiving.
