NEWSLETTER No.40 – 20 July 2022

Dear Parents

As these last few days draw to an end for this academic year, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all the staff and children who persevered through the very unusually hot week!  The children coped very well and our teachers found lots of ways to keep them cool, including water sprays and trays of water for hot feet!

The Year 6 children had so much fun yesterday to begin their end of year celebrations.  They started with a water fight, followed by pizza delivery for lunch and then a visit from Alice’s Ices so they could purchase an ice-cream.  A great time was had by all!

Today we said farewell to our Year 6 children in our Leavers Mass and Assembly. It was reflective and uplifting and was lovely to have many of their parents and grandparents join us to celebrate their time at St Margaret’s. We truly felt that we were back to normality after the disruption and compromises of the past few years.  We send them all our best wishes as they begin their Secondary School journey, may they hold St Margaret’s in their hearts as they continue to grow. They will always be part of the St Margaret’s family – we look forward to seeing them return for the Summer Fair and Fireworks night amongst other events. I will post the mass and a selection of the reflections on the website as soon as I can!

We would like to say a huge thank you to the Year 6 parents who collected an amazing £760 towards a gift for the school.  We are organising having games painted on the playground, so that all children can enjoy your amazing generosity!  We will post pictures on our gallery as soon as the work has finished.

We still have some uncollected school reports in the school office.  We will now hold onto these until September.

The PTA have raised an outstanding amount of £14,223.38, £4642.97 of which was raised at the summer fair!  Thank you to all PTA members, parent helpers and of course, staff, who put in so much of their own time to ensure that all events can run.  We will let you know what the money is spent on in due course, but are absolutely overjoyed by this stunning result. Fabulous teamwork, everyone!

A reminder that the 224 Bus Service will not be running from September.  If you wish your child to catch the 211 bus, they must have their money before getting on the bus.  Staff are paying for children who have forgotten their money, out of their own pockets and this should not happen nor will it be possible to continue in this way.  If a child does not have their bus money the drivers will not allow them to board the bus and they will then need to be collected from the school office.  We appreciate your support with this.

I would like to thank you all so very much for your kind words, your extremely generous and thoughtful gifts and your wishes for my future. I am overwhelmed by your generosity and truly humbled by your wonderful words of appreciation. SMC will, of course, always be a huge part of my life and remain in my heart. I wish you all a restful and happy summer break and pass you into the careful hands of Mrs Oubridge, who knows how fabulous you all are.

Mrs Oubridge will be looking forward to seeing all the children back at school on Monday 5 September.
