Our Lord Jesus Christ – King of the Universe
Jesus Christ is our Saviour, but he is also our universal king. This Sunday we celebrate his kingship. Jesus Christ is a king of each one of us, and he takes care of our needs and shares his life with us, offering us his love and his forgiveness.
He is not like human kings who possess a lot of material richness, power and glory. Instead he is a servant king, who possess much more riches of love, kindness and compassion. He comes to us to serve, to love and forgive and lead us to heaven. He invites us to join him in serving and loving our neighbours and all people we meet.
In the Gospel reading Jesus the universal king invites each of us to feed the hungry, to give a drink to someone thirsty, to shelter the homeless and the poor, to welcome the stranger, to cloth the naked, to visit the sick and the lonely. This is his kingship; to serve and love and show compassion. If we do these to our brothers and sisters, who are in need, Jesus will welcome us in his glorious kingdom of peace and joy.
