NEWSLETTER No 7 – 19 October 2018

Dear Parents

Mrs Thomas’ class led our assembly this morning, reminding us of the importance of family in our lives, and how God is our loving father, and is always there to support, love and guide us. Well done to Mrs Thomas and all of her class for leading us in such a thoughtful assembly.

Our Football and Netball teams played against Cage Green School on Wednesday, again thrilling us with exciting matches! All teams thoroughly enjoyed playing, and our netball team worked tremendously well as a team, winning by an impressive margin! The next fixture is the first week of next term, Wednesday 31 October at home, against Hildenborough Primary. Supporters are always welcome.

EARLY YEARS PHONICS WORKSHOP

The teachers in our Early Years held a phonics workshop for parents of children in our Reception classes on Tuesday afternoon. This was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about phonics in Early Years and how to support the children with their sounds and reading at home. If you were unable to join the workshop but would like more information, please speak to the Early Years team. Thank you to the staff who helped with the Crèche.

HOSPICE IN THE WEALD

The children have been thinking about ways to raise money for Hospice in the Weald, CAFOD, MacMillan, and the Meserani Project. Over the last two weeks, a collection of children in KS2 have held cake sales to raise monies, and from their amazing efforts, now have over £130 to donate to these worthy charities! Thank you to all those involved for all your hard work.

EAL PARENTS GROUP

We are arranging a meeting on Thursday 1 November at 2.30pm for parents who are unfamiliar with the English education system, and who would like to gain better understanding of how the English education system works, and ways to support the children in their learning. If you would like to attend this session, please let the office know.

PARENTPAY

Just a reminder to book your children’s meals for next term now, to ensure they are booked before we return for school on 29 October.

We would also ask that parents pay any outstanding balances for IOW, swimming lessons, school meals etc. by the end of this term.

SWIMMING LESSON

Over the next two terms, Yr3/4 classes will be swimming on Thursday mornings for three weeks at a time.

Miss Frith’s class: 01.11.18 - 15.11.18

Mrs Taylor’s class: 22.11.18 –06.12.18

Mrs Tyrie’s class: 10.01.19 – 24.01.19

Miss Ventress’ class: 31.01.19 – 14.02.19

A contribution of £12.00 to cover the cost of instruction and transport would be much appreciated, please pay online via ParentPay.

MASS

All are welcome to join us for our Holy Day of Obligation Mass on Thursday 1 November at 9.30am in the school hall.

PTA: DESIGN A CHRISTMAS CARD/GIFT TAGS

If your child would like to design their own Christmas Card/Gift Tag or Wrapping Paper please complete the order form and return with payment and design (in the poly pocket supplied) to the school office no later than FRIDAY 2 NOVEMBER, as they will be collated and sent off that week.

ADMISSIONS TO RECEPTION IN SEPTEMBER 2019

We are getting very booked up with our viewing mornings but do still have some available dates. You are very welcome to come and have a tour of our school. Those that have a sibling due to start next year, as well as new families, are very welcome! Please phone the school office to make an appointment. All parents – even if you have a child currently in school - will need to complete both our school’s Supplementary Information Form and also KCC’s Primary Admissions Form by 15 January 2019 for entry next year.

COOL MILK

Our school milk scheme is administered by Cool Milk. To register your child for school milk, please visit https://www.coolmilk.com/register

ISLE OF WIGHT 2019

It would be appreciated if parents could ensure that they have paid at least £200, which includes the £65 deposit, by the end of November via ParentPay. Parents who already pay monthly, through a standing order, will have paid enough to cover payments as they fall due. If you intend to pay the whole amount in one lump sum, please let the office know, so we do not unnecessarily remind you for payments. All parents will be notified in March 2019 of any final balance.

FIREWORKS DISPLAY – 3 November – Gates open 5pm

Tickets for the Fireworks must be purchased in advance as the PTA needs to know the number of people attending as there are restricted numbers. There will be no tickets for sale on the night. This year you will be given a wrist band for each member of your family that you have bought tickets for, please wear them on the night as you will not be allowed access to the fireworks without them. They will be coming home with the children after the autumn break.

TRANSFER TO SECONDAY SCHOOL

I will be available to meet or speak over the telephone with parents who wish to discuss their child’s options for secondary school in September 2019. Please phone the school office if you wish to make an appointment.

Parents have until 31 October to submit their applications online to KCC at www.kent.gov.uk/ola . Our school’s reference is: LEA: 886 and DFE: 3744. Please remember some schools, such as St Gregory’s require parents to complete their own Supplementary Information Form which has to be countersigned by their Priest or Minister. Please let the school office know your school choice.

PARKING

Just a reminder to consider our neighbours whilst parking considerately. We ask that parents are careful not to park over our neighbours’ driveways, and avoid parking over the pavement, as this can cause an obstruction, which is a legal offence and can lead to a fine from traffic wardens. Many thanks for your support on this matter.

Parents of children in 3/4 EF are welcome to join us for their class assembly on Friday 26 October 2018.

May you all have a lovely break and return back to school refreshed on Monday 29 October.

Yours sincerely

Caroline Ryan

Academy Principal

Today we enjoyed an assembly given by Mrs Taylor's class, thinking about friendship: how we make friends, how we keep them, and the importance of friends in our world. Thank you to everyone for taking part so beautifully.
