NEWSLETTER No 6 – 12 October 2018

Dear Parents

We had the pleasure of watching Mrs Challis’ 5/6 class lead our assembly today, sharing their learning from PSHE lessons, where they have been discussing good mental health. They clearly explained and explored the ‘Zones of Regulation’; a tool to help us not only understand how we are feeling, but also useful strategies we can use to improve our mood and outlook when necessary. Well done to Mrs Challis and her class for all their hard work, and to the many parents who came, for their support.

FOOTBALL AND NETBALL MATCH

Both our football and netball teams played their first inter-school matches of the season on Wednesday. Our two football teams played very exciting matches against Stocks Green, with A team winning 2-1, and B team playing incredibly well, keeping the pressure on throughout the match! Both our Hi-5 teams showed great team spirit and potential, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, embracing the opportunity to play and represent our school. Well done to all the players, and thank you to all the parents, grandparents, and family members that came to support them!

Both our football and HI-5 netball teams will play their next match at Home on Wednesday 17 October against Cage Green.

TEMPEST PHOTOGRAPHS

This week the children had their individual and sibling photos taken at school. We will send home the proofs when they arrive, which will enable you to purchase them in time for Christmas.

PTA: DESIGN A CHRISTMAS CARD/GIFT TAGS

If your child would like to design their own Christmas Card/Gift Tag or Wrapping Paper please complete the order form and return with payment and design (in the poly pocket supplied) to the school office no later than FRIDAY 2 NOVEMBER as they will be collated and sent off the following week.

PHONICS DROP-IN

Our Early Years team will be holding a Phonics drop-in this coming Tuesday 16 October, from 3.30-4pm. We will also be offering a crèche for the children. If you would like to use the crèche, please do let the office know, so that we can ensure it is adequately staffed.

CROSS COUNTRY @ SOMERHILL

We wish all pupils who are taking part in the Cross Country run at Somerhill good luck this afternoon! Spectators are most welcome to go along and support their endeavours.

TRANSFER TO SECONDAY SCHOOL

Parents have until 31 October to submit their applications online to KCC at www.kent.gov.uk/ola . Our school’s reference is: LEA: 886 and DFE: 3744. Please remember some schools, such as St Gregory’s require parents to complete their own Supplementary Information Form which has to be countersigned by their Priest or Minister. Please let the school office know your school choice.

I will be available to telephone or meet with parents who wish to discuss their child’s options for secondary school in September 2019. Please phone the school office if you wish to make an appointment.

Parents of children in 5/6 Mrs Thomas’ class are welcome to join us for their class assembly next Friday 19 October.

Although we have been blessed with glorious autumn weather thus far, it does look set to get colder, so we do ask that you please ensure your child has a named coat in school at all times.

Yours sincerely,

Caroline Ryan

Academy Principal

Today we enjoyed an assembly given by Mrs Taylor's class, thinking about friendship: how we make friends, how we keep them, and the importance of friends in our world. Thank you to everyone for taking part so beautifully.
