NEWSLETTER No.3 – 21 September 2018

Dear Parents

It was lovely to meet many parents at our beginning of year joint Mass with St Augustine’s, at Aylesford Priory on Tuesday morning. We greatly appreciate Canon Peter Stodart from St Augustine’s Church, Father Peter from Corpus Christi, and Deacon Kevin for helping us celebrate the mass. It was a very moving and joyful service, and the children represented our school beautifully. The children embraced the event wholeheartedly, and thoroughly enjoyed the mass, followed by the picnic, and the opportunity to meet and play with the children from St Augustine’s school. Please see our website Gallery for photos of the day.

We thank all those who have generously donated £1.00 towards the canvas bags, in our ongoing bid to be plastic free! Many thanks to the staff and pupils who collected the children’s plastic bags and lunch rubbish after the trip to Aylesford, and then recycled all items that were recyclable! Please see our website for photos!

PLAYLUNCH is £1.50 for the whole year per child for children in years 3-6. (£10 for Reception for their whole SMC school life) As those in year 1 and 2 have already paid the £10 for their school life, no payment is required. Play lunch consists of fruit or vegetable 4 mornings a week, and plain biscuit on one morning. Please let the school office know if you are not joining the scheme - children may bring their own fruit or biscuit (not chocolate or crisps). Payments can now be made via your ParentPay account.

We would like to thank all those families who have so far logged in and set up accounts on ParentPay. We are so pleased to hear from many families that they have found the system very user–friendly! Just a reminder that all school dinners for your children must be booked through ParentPay by this Sunday evening, for at least the week ahead, to ensure that your children’s meals are included in the catering numbers. Once your account is activated, you can check your email details to ensure you receive school communications which will now all come through this new system. To do this, click onto “Profile Settings” and then “Email Addresses”. As this is your own personal account, you will need to check these details yourself. If you have any problems or concerns, please do contact the office who are happy to help!

ISLE OF WIGHT MAY 2019

Many thanks to those parents in Year 5 who pay by standing order. If you do not have a standing order the next monthly payment of £50 is now due via ParentPay (£115.00 if you have not already paid the £65.00 deposit). Many parents find the savings club helpful, please contact the school office if you would like further details of this. Separate letters will be sent out shortly to all Year 3 parents with details of the IOW trip in 2021.

SCHOOL CLUBS

All school clubs started this week. All classrooms have a list of the clubs and those in them, please ask your child to check them if they are unsure which club/s they are attending. Please note that many clubs have been extremely popular, and so your child may be on the waiting list.

PARKING

As our school is situated in a residential area, it is very important that parents park considerately – not on yellow lines, nor by dropped kerbs and driveways, - and that parents do NOT park in the road entrance to Coblands or turn in the approach road, especially outside the school gates! I would also like to remind parents that if you are dropping off, or collecting from ARC, you may park in the top car park. Parents collecting from after school clubs should park off site and walk down the drive. Many thanks for your help with this matter, as it ensures all children’s safety and our good relationship with our neighbours.

WELCOME SUPPER

If was lovely to welcome so many parents of our new children on Wednesday evening, when we enjoyed a delicious supper made by our school caterers, Chartwells. It was a great opportunity for people to get to know each other in a relaxed and sociable environment, and we look forward to building strong relationships with all our families.

RECEPTION CLASS CONSULATIONS

Our Early Years teachers will be holding consultations next week on Monday 24 September, Tuesday 25 September and Thursday 27 September 3.30pm – 6.30pm. If you have not yet made an appointment using our online appointment system, please contact the school office who will be happy to help you.

HARVEST CELEBRATION – Friday 5 October 2018

This year we are again inviting parents to join us on Friday 5 October for our Harvest Assembly. We will start the day by taking part in a walk for CAFOD, followed by our Harvest Assembly, and a Frugal Lunch (rice/vegetable sauce/bread) which will be the only meal provided by the kitchen on this day. To help the kitchen prepare the food, please indicate on the form below by Monday 1 October if your children usually have packed lunch and will (or will not) be having frugal lunch (£2.20) and also whether you are able to join us for the frugal lunch (£2.50 each adult). This can be paid on ParentPay as of today, and you can pay the total amount for all children and adults taking part in the Frugal Lunch.

You are very welcome to join your children for our CAFOD walk, however please note that the walk is not suitable for pushchairs. Your youngest child may well appreciate your help, though the children will be supported by staff, and our Reception children will be walking with their buddies! For those who would like to join us solely for the Harvest Assembly followed by the Frugal Lunch, this will begin at 11am.

All money raised will be donated to CAFOD. If however, your child is in Reception and/or Years 1 and 2, and therefore entitled to Free School Lunch, a donation of £2.20 per pupil would be appreciated, and can be paid via ParentPay. If your child is in Years 3 to 6 your lunch payment will be donated to CAFOD. As part of the celebration, children are welcome to wear bright socks or tights for a donation for CAFOD, which will be collected in class.

Each year we distribute the harvest gifts to our local community and would very much appreciate help with this. If you are available to distribute a bag of goods to a couple of houses within the area, please let the office or PTA know.

SECONDARY SCHOOL VIEWINGS

We have attached a flyer from St Gregory’s showing their Open Mornings and Evenings for year 5/6 pupils. We would encourage you not to take your child out of school to attend the morning viewings but to attend the evening dates instead.

Our first viewing mornings for children starting school in 2019 started this week, please contact the school office if you would like to make an appointment. All parents – even if you have a child currently in school - will need to complete both our school’s Supplementary Information Form and also KCC’s Primary Admissions Form by early January 2019 for entry next year, which can both be found on our website.

We welcome parents from Mrs Chamberlain’s class on Monday 24 September, for their class assembly, and also Mr Shaw’s class next Friday 28 September, for their class assembly.

Thank you to KS2 parents for helping your child’s growing independence by saying goodbye to them outside or in the Gallery, this really helps all the children to make a prompt start to the day.

Yours sincerely
